JOB TITLE DEFINITION:

Refrigeration Technicians install, maintain, service, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration systems and equipment, commercial chillers, cooling towers, pumps, variable frequency drives, and other associated equipment.

SAMPLE WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair refrigeration systems, including commercial cooling systems; diagnose electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency
  • Recharge systems with refrigerant and ensure compliance with EPA standards
  • Clean and maintain condenser coils, cooling towers, pump strainers, and other components
  • Test systems for leaks using appropriate tools and techniques (e.g., vacuum pumps, leak detectors)
  • Solder and braze refrigeration and water lines
  • Maintain, service, and repair commercial chillers and associated equipment
  • Install and startup chiller equipment including pumps, cooling towers, variable frequency drives, etc.
  • Troubleshoot chiller pump, motor, fan drive, and actuator electrical and mechanical failures; report issues to lead technician or supervisor; repair/replace, as directed
  • Troubleshoot building automation systems and components; report issues to lead technician or supervisor; repair/replace as directed
  • Assist other technicians with complex repairs and new or specialized unit construction; rig, remove, service, repair associated chiller plant and building equipment
  • Maintain proper chilled water temperatures and differential pressures in various chilled water systems
