Retiree Association

Stay Connected. Stay Engaged. Stay Involved.

Retirement from Penn State doesn’t mean leaving the Penn State community behind.

The Penn State University Retirees Association (PSURA) keeps you connected with colleagues and friends while offering opportunities to learn, volunteer, and stay informed about issues that matter to retirees.

Through PSURA, you can:

•    Connect with fellow Penn State retirees
•    Attend engaging programs and social events
•    Stay informed about retiree health and benefit updates
•    Participate in volunteer, educational, and community opportunities
•    Continue being part of the Penn State family

•    July – Group tour of a university or local facility of interest
•    September – Annual picnic lunch and program
•    November – Zoom meeting with representatives from HR and Highmark to provide updates on retiree benefits and upcoming changes

Most in-person meetings begin with a half hour of social time and light refreshments before the program. For events that include meals or guided tours, there may be a small fee to cover costs.

Need a little help during a tough time?

If you—or your spouse or partner—are facing an unexpected financial challenge, the Penn State Retirees Assistance Fund may be able to help.

This fund was created in 1952 by a generous Penn State retiree and exists for one simple reason: to support fellow retirees during times of genuine financial need.

Over the years, this fund has quietly helped many of our fellow retirees through difficult moments.

What kinds of situations qualify?

Recent grants have helped retirees with:

  • Medical insurance premiums
  • Hospital and medical bills
  • Physical therapy and prescriptions
  • Hearing aids and medical equipment
  • Non-medical expenses

If something unexpected has created financial stress, we encourage you to reach out.

How to apply

Applying is straight forward and completely confidential:

  1. Click here to access form: Retiree Assistance Fund Application
  2. Print form, complete, and mail to the address listed at the bottom of the application

All applications are kept confidential, and applicants will be notified once a determination is made.  If approved, payment is made directly to the provider (such as a medical office or insurance company), not to the retiree. There is a $2,500 lifetime cap for grants awarded.

Please don’t hesitate to apply if you think this fund could help. It exists for moments just like these.
